What a windy end of the week it has been! The children certainly deserve the weekend off to rest and relax after another busy week of learning.

Inn English, we have been continuing our writing based on the gripping novel, The Nowhere Emporium. We have now approached the part where lots of action is taking place, and the children are continuing to excite with their use of adventurous and gripping vocabulary choices.

In Maths we have been adding and subtracting fractions and remembering the golden rule of ensuring that the denominator is the same before adding the numerator. Try this one: 4/5 plus 7/15  OR  2 subtract 5/7. Okay, how about this one: 3/8 plus 4/5??? The children have shown super resilience during their lessons and have worked brilliantly on these. Next week, we will be multiplying fractions by whole numbers.

Our Viking topic was focussed on Anglo Saxon Kings, namely King Alfred. We spent time looking through evidence to decide whether or not he deserved his epithet – Great. We also answered the question: Can we trust the Anglo-Saxon view of the Vikings? This became quite a vocal discussion as we researched lots of evidence from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles.

A big congratulations must go to all of our children who passed their level 2 Bikeability assessment. They braved the cold, and for some, the rather wet weather conditions, yet kept smiling as they passed with flying colours. The instructors were full of compliments and praise for all their hard work, impeccable manners and exemplary behaviour. Certificates and badges will be presented next week.

Enjoy your weekend and stay safe,

The Year 5 team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
