P.E.
"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity."
[John F Kennedy, 35th President of the United States (1961-1963) ]
At St Luke’s we believe in delivering a high-quality physical education curriculum. Physical education (P.E.) should be a key focus of the school curriculum due to its unique potential to support whole child development, which includes, but is not limited to, physical health and development.
Alongside physical development, P.E contributes to cognitive development through decision making, problem solving and organisation. It also Increases social awareness through communication and sharing of ideas and emotional development with raised confidence, motivation and self-awareness.
P.E. builds character and at St Luke’s we aim to embed the school games values of: respect, self-belief, honesty, teamwork, passion and determination.
Our rounded curriculum provides children with the necessary tools to make a positive impact in their own physical health and well-being whilst developing self-esteem a positive mindset.
The collaborative nature of P.E. fosters healthy social interactions and allows children to engage in activities whereby they can support each other and learn to work effectively as a team whilst developing an understanding of fairness and respect. It teaches children to cope with both success and failure in a competitive environment both individually and as part of a team.
